Scientists honored
Anny Cazenave, senior scientist at the French Space Agency's 'Laboratoire d'Etudes en Geophysique at Oceanographie Spatiale' (LEGOS) in Toulouse, and also a Member of the Academy of Sciences, will receive the 2012 William Bowie Medal at the AGU meeting in San Francisco in December. AGU's highest honor was established in 1939 in honor of William Bowie for his spirit of helpfulness and friendliness in unselfish cooperative research. In addition to being the first president of AGU (1920-1922), Bowie was also the first recipient of this medal. The Bowie Medal is awarded not more than once annually to an individual for "outstanding contributions to fundamental geophysics and for unselfish cooperation in research," one of the guiding principles of AGU.
