We are very pleased to announce that two members of the Ocean Surface Topography science team have won prestigious American Meteorological Society Awards: | Dr. Richard D. Ray has won the Verner E. Suomi Award, "for highly creative analysis of satellite altimetry data, leading to a revival of interest in tidal science and enabling the analysis of nontidal oceanic motions by the altimeter." Dr. Ray's research interests include; - Tides of the Earth, ocean, and atmosphere,
- Satellite geodesy; Variations in Earth rotation, and
- Geomagnetism
| | Dr. Dean H. Roemmich has won the Sverdrup Gold Medal Award "for major contributions to the measurement and understanding of the ocean's role in climate, and for leading the development and implementation of the Argo profiling float array." Dr. Roemmich's research interests include; - Role of the oceans in climate and climate variability
- General circulation of the oceans, and
- The California Current System
