Abstract:


Waveform Analysis and Improved Altimetric Parameters Estimations over deep-ocean, coastal zones, land areas and ice regions
Jason-2 waveforms over a sigma0 bloom event
The studies proposed are a follow up of the work performed for many years by our team at CLS with the past and current altimetry missions: TOPEX/POSEIDON, Jason-1, Jason-2, ENVISAT/RA-2, Cryosat-2. These studies will contribute to the objectives of the Joint Research Announcement "Ocean Surface Topography Science Team" through the assessment and the improvement of the estimation of the altimeter parameters:
  • Development and assessment of new retrieval algorithms and/or models likely to improve the quality of the data over open ocean and particular zones: coastal oceans, inland waters, ice surfaces and rain/clouds
  • Scientific application studies: mesoscale variability, coastal altimetry, continental water monitoring, polar oceans observations, continental and sea-ice studies, low rain and clouds climatology, ...
  • Operational applications studies (example: iceberg detection)
